Odisha targets big-ticket investments in chemicals, petrochemicals

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 (UNI) Odisha will join Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu in showcasing its investment potential at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai on October 22, as the State seeks to emerge as a major destination for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will attend the inaugural session and a CEO Roundtable chaired by union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers J.P. Nadda during his two-day visit to Mumbai. He is also scheduled to hold one-to-one meetings with representatives of more than 20 major companies to explore investments in industrial expansion, downstream manufacturing and new industrial ventures.
A key highlight of Odisha’s participation will be a presentation on coal gasification, alongside plans to strengthen the State’s chemical and petrochemical ecosystem. The Government may also announce a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park to attract investments in chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and packaging.
The State will use the industry platform to highlight its resource base, industrial infrastructure, investment-ready facilities and policy support, while exploring partnerships with domestic and international industry stakeholders. Odisha is seeking to leverage its strengths in mining and metallurgy to expand into higher-value manufacturing and diversify its industrial base.
The investment push comes amid significant commitments in the sector. Over the past two years, Odisha has attracted 56 companies proposing investments of Rs 1,93,087.94 crore, with an estimated employment potential of 1,12,324 people. Of these, 27 projects, involving investments of ₹60,825.34 crore and employment potential of 35,351 people, have been grounded or inaugurated, according to the State Government.
Additional Chief Secretary, Industrie, Hemant Sharma said India Chem 2026 would provide an opportunity to engage directly with leading companies and showcase Odisha’s investment opportunities. The State is focused on building a competitive ecosystem for chemical and petrochemical industries through infrastructure development, progressive policies and resource-based advantages, he said.
Sharma also cited recent industrial developments in Jajpur as evidence of the sector’s growing potential. Nine projects—five inaugurations and four groundbreaking ceremonies—representing investments of ₹4,136 crore and expected to generate 1,508 jobs were part of the recent programme, he said.
The chemical and petrochemical sector is a priority for Odisha as it seeks to strengthen manufacturing value chains, promote downstream industries and generate employment. The proposed industrial park is expected to facilitate integrated manufacturing, encourage ancillary industries and support value addition.
Through its participation at India Chem 2026, the State aims to convert investor interest into projects on the ground and strengthen its position in India’s evolving chemical and petrochemical manufacturing landscape.UNI MK AAB
