Odisha Govt signs two concession agreements for maritime infrastructure projects

Bhubaneswar, June 26 (UNI) The Odisha Government today signed two concession agreements aimed at boosting maritime infrastructure in the state.
They include the upgradation of Gopalpur Port and construction of a captive jetty at Jatadhara Muhan.
The first agreement was signed between Gopalpur Ports Limited and the Odisha Government for
the expansion and modernization of Gopalpur Port with a proposed investment of Rs.16,554 crore.
Following this upgradation, the port's cargo handling capacity will rise to 50 million metric tonnes (MMT), generating direct and indirect employment opportunities for approximately 5,000 youths.
The second agreement was signed with JSW Utkal Steel Limited for the development of a captive jetty at Jatadhara Muhan, located under Erasama Tehsil in Jagatsinghpur district.
The project involves an initial investment of Rs 2,100 crore and is expected to support a cargo handling capacity of 52 MMT.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the state government is prioritizing the development of maritime trade infrastructure across Odisha by promoting the establishment of ports, jetties, and related facilities.
“Our objective is to collaborate with private companies on a partnership basis to accelerate the growth of maritime trade in the state,” the Chief Minister stated.
He also announced plans to set up two additional ports in Odisha in the near future.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, JSW Utkal
Steel Limited President Anil Kumar Singh, Gopalpur Ports Limited Business Head Sandeep Jaiswal, and Odisha Port Director Padmalochan Rawal.
Majhi stated that both Gopalpur Ports Limited (Adani Ports) and JSW Steel are globally recognized
in the fields of port development and steel production.
“These two companies will usher in a new era of port-led development in Odisha, creating 8,450 employment opportunities,” he said.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena noted that the state government's key objective is to identify potential sites along Odisha’s long coastline and develop non-major ports, jetties, fish harbors, and coastal transport infrastructure.
