Odisha steps up night patrolling of water bodies amid heavy rains

Bhubaneswar, Sep 24 (UNI) The Odisha government has intensified night patrolling and field-level vigilance at strategic locations across the state amid heavy rains triggered by a deep depression, official sources said on Thursday.
Engineering officials and field staff of the Water Resources Department are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of critical water infrastructure and closely monitoring river conditions to prevent any untoward situation.
As part of the intensified vigilance, the Assistant Engineer of Sorada Section-I, along with field staff, conducted night patrolling and operated the barrage gates at Padma Barrage of Sorada Reservoir. The gates were regulated to manage the inflow of water and divert it towards the reservoir as required.
Similarly, personnel of the Gunupur Irrigation Sub-Division carried out night patrolling at several locations along the Vansadhara River, including the areas near Sananadi Bridge, CWC Gauge Station, Haldia Sluice and Ktwalguda village.
Night patrolling was also undertaken near Haldia Sluice to ensure continuous monitoring of the river and associated hydraulic structures amid the prevailing weather conditions.
In another precautionary measure, field staff conducted night patrolling along the Left Flood Bank of the Rushikulya River to keep a close watch on the river and ensure the safety of flood protection infrastructure.
The Water Resources Department has stepped up field-level monitoring and maintained 24x7 vigilance across vulnerable locations to closely track river levels, water inflows and the condition of critical infrastructure, official sources said.
