Palwal police arrest man over Rs 3 lakh fake gold fraud

Palwal, Oct 27 (UNI) Police have arrested a man accused of cheating a Uttar Pradesh resident of Rs 3 lakh by selling him fake gold and recovered Rs 60,000, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Saddam alias Jani, a resident of Maluka village in Palwal district, was sent to judicial custody after completing two days of police remand.
According to the complaint filed on September 22, Suresh Kumar of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad alleged that Saddam befriended him after introducing himself as a scrap dealer and offered to sell him gold at a low price.
The accused allegedly called Kumar to the rest house in Hathin on September 20, collected Rs 3 lakh in cash and handed him fake gold before fleeing, the spokesman said.
Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested Saddam following an investigation, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar, in charge of the Hathin city police post.
During police remand, investigators recovered Rs 60,000 that police described as the accused’s share of the proceeds.
“Do not be lured by strangers offering cheap gold or other inducements. Conduct thorough checks before entering into any financial transaction,” Palwal Superintendent of Police Deepti Garg said.
She urged residents to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or Dial 112.
