Shimla-Bilaspur-Dharamshala Highway Closed; NHAI and Police Issue Advisory: Road Subsidence at Khalota (Namhol); Traffic Diverted for Repairs; Alternative Routes Announced

Hamirpur(HP), Oct 27 (UNI) The Shimla-Bilaspur-Dharamshala National Highway, which connects the capital of Himachal Pradesh to nine districts in the state, has been closed and traffic halted near Khalota in Namhol (Bilaspur) due to the subsidence of the road necessitating repair work.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has closed this stretch to all types of vehicles, both small and large, an official spokesman said in a statement here today.
In response, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Bilaspur, have issued an advisory. Alternative routes have been provided for the convenience and safety of travelers. Motorists are urged to use the designated routes and follow the instructions of the traffic police.
The police have designated an alternative route for vehicles traveling from Bilaspur and Hamirpur toward Shimla. These vehicles must travel via Barmana, Jukhala, Jwal Pul, Ranikotal, Gharsi, and Darlaghat to reach Shimla.
Similarly, vehicles traveling from Shimla toward Bilaspur and Hamirpur may proceed via Darlaghat, Gharsi, Ranikotal, JwalPul, and Ghumarwin/Barmana.
Tourists visiting destinations such as Shimla, Kasauli, Chail, Narkanda, and Kufri—many of whom use this national highway to travel onward to places like Manali, Dharamshala, and Rohtang—are also required to follow this advisory.
The road at this location in Namhol (Bilaspur) on the Shimla-Dharamshala National Highway will remain closed until the repair work is completed.
Route Changed for Vehicles Heading to Mandi
Vehicles traveling from Shimla towards Mandi are advised to take a route passing through Darlaghat, Navgaon, Gharsi, Ranikotal, and Bairi. The police have requested drivers to use only these designated alternative routes to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
The police have urged drivers to maintain discipline on these alternative routes and refrain from unnecessary overtaking. Furthermore, motorists are advised to follow the instructions provided by traffic police personnel. Directives have also been issued to prioritize emergency vehicles.
Until the necessary road improvement work is completed, drivers should plan their journeys according to these alternative routes. The police have emphasized that public cooperation is essential to ensure the safety of travelers and the smooth movement of traffic.
