Rain likely in Haryana, Punjab from Sept 25; Southwest monsoon withdrawal line passes via Chandigarh: IMD

Panchkula, Sep 24 (UNI) Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab are likely to witness a fresh spell of isolated to scattered rainfall from September 25 to 29, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday, as the southwest monsoon continued its withdrawal from parts of northwest India.
According to the IMD's All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued at 9.25 am, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and Punjab during September 25-29.
The weather department's seven-day rainfall forecast shows dry weather over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on September 24, followed by scattered rainfall during September 25-27 and isolated rainfall during September 28-30.
Punjab is forecast to remain dry on September 24, receive isolated rainfall on September 25, scattered rainfall on September 26 and 27, and isolated rainfall from September 28 to 30.
However, the IMD has not issued any heavy-rain, thunderstorm or other weather warning for either Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi or Punjab for September 24-30, according to its subdivision-wise warning bulletin issued on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon continues to pass through Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur, Deesa and Naliya, the IMD said.
Rainfall activity is expected to be stronger over the western Himalayan region. Isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast over Himachal Pradesh during September 24-29, while Uttarakhand is likely to witness fairly widespread to widespread rainfall during September 26-28.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand on September 28 and very heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 26 and 27. West Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall during September 25-27.
The bulletin said a deep depression that crossed the north Andhra Pradesh coast during the night of September 23-24 was centred over north coastal Andhra Pradesh at 5.30 am on Thursday, about 50 km west of Kalingapatnam, 80 km north-northeast of Visakhapatnam and 170 km southwest of Gopalpur.
A western disturbance also persisted as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation remained over northwest Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood.
This version is safer for an agency wire: the headline accurately says “rain likely”, not “rain alert”, and it clearly distinguishes the rainfall forecast from an IMD warning.
