Ranji Trophy: Pramanik's maiden 10-wicket haul powers Bengal to third straight win

Kolkata, Oct 29 (UNI) Bengal strengthened their hold on top spot in Ranji Trophy Elite Group C after spinner Pradipta Pramanik claimed his maiden 10-wicket match haul in a commanding 287-run victory over Kerala on Thursday. Shahbaz Ahmed also delivered a decisive all-round performance as Bengal completed their third successive win of the season.
Kerala, resuming the fourth and final day at 53/4 while chasing 408, were dismissed for 120 in 38.4 overs at the KCA Cricket Ground in Mangalapuram. The victory took Bengal to 18 points, six ahead of Maharashtra, who collected three points for a first-innings lead over Gujarat in Pune.
Pramanik, playing his 19th first-class match, finished with 6/51 in the second innings after taking 4/44 in the first, returning match figures of 10/95. The left-arm spinner removed overnight batter and Kerala captain Vishnu Vinod for 19 without allowing him to add to his score, before dismissing Salman Nizar for one.
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami then struck twice, removing Aditya Sarwate and Vaisakh Chandran as Kerala slipped to 70/8. Mohammed Azharuddeen scored 26 off 44 balls, including three fours, while MD Nidheesh counterattacked with 33 off 28 deliveries, hitting five fours and a six.
Shahbaz ended both threats, dismissing Azharuddeen before removing Nidheesh in the following over to complete Bengal's emphatic win.
Named Player of the Match, Shahbaz had scored 121 in Bengal's first innings and taken 2/22. He added 20 runs and claimed another two wickets for 19 in the second innings. Bengal posted 350 in their first innings and added 198 in the second, having earlier restricted Kerala to 141, with Vinod top-scoring with 41.
Kotian spins Mumbai to win
Tanush Kotian produced a match-winning spell of 8 for 81 as Mumbai crushed Haryana by 10 wickets in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group D clash at home. Having struck once late on Day 3, Kotian ran through the opposition on the final morning, claiming seven more wickets to wrap up the innings.
He prevented overnight batters Himanshu Rana (46) and Nishant Sindhu (44) from reaching their half-centuries before breaking the lower-order resistance led by Samant Jakhar.
Kotian’s eight-wicket haul restricted Haryana to a total that left Mumbai with a target of just 97, which they chased down comfortably for a comprehensive victory. Angkrish Raghuvanshi followed up his first innings hundred with a berserk 67 off just 39 balls as Mumbai gunned down the target in under 11 overs to thrash Haryana by 10 wickets.
Bhut’s six-fer powers Saurashtra to big win
Parth Bhut completed a superb eight-wicket haul to lead Saurashtra to an innings-and-12-run victory over Assam early on Day 4. Having claimed six wickets by the close of play on the previous day, Bhut finished with remarkable figures of 8 for 17 from 18 overs to wrap up the contest in emphatic fashion.
Maharashtra take first-innings points against Gujarat
Maharashtra had to settle for three points after Gujarat's declaration left them with a target of 340 and insufficient time to force an outright result.
Gujarat resumed at 227/3 and declared at 446/5 in 101.1 overs, powered by Aarya Desai's 151 and Jaymeet Patel's unbeaten 119. Urvil Patel narrowly missed a century, scoring 96 off 71 balls.
Maharashtra, who had taken a first-innings lead by scoring 330 against Gujarat's 223, finished their second innings at 141/4 in 47 overs. Digvijay Patil remained unbeaten on 55 off 91 balls, while Sachin Dhas contributed 26. Gujarat earned one point.
Rain forces Delhi-Jharkhand draw
Persistent rain linked to Cyclone Arnab over the Bay of Bengal prevented further play in Ranchi, leaving Delhi and Jharkhand with a draw and one point each.
Delhi captain Ayush Badoni was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 210 off 228 balls, with 19 fours and three sixes, as his team declared at 515/5 in 130 overs. It was his second successive double century, following a similar effort in the previous match. Badoni also took 1/16 in Jharkhand's first innings and was named Player of the Match.
Jharkhand had reached 131/4 in 47 overs before rain washed out the remaining two days, including the scheduled fourth and final day.
Odisha, Services also share points
The weather also brought the Odisha-Services match at the KIIT Stadium in Bhubaneswar to an early end, with both teams receiving one point after no play was possible on the final day.
Odisha were dismissed for 194 in 82.3 overs after Services elected to field. Swastik Samal scored 39, Gourav Choudhary made 41 and Anil Parida contributed 36. Left-arm spinner Pulkit Narang was the pick of the Services bowlers, taking 6/47.
Services reached 40 without loss in 12 overs in reply, with Nitin Tanwar unbeaten on 23 and Shubham Rohilla on 17. However, adverse weather prevented play on the second, third and fourth days, leaving the contest without a decisive result.
