SC verdict in BBMB case a major victory for Himachal's rights: MLA Kewal Singh Pathania

Dharamshala, Nov 6 ( UNI) Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Whip and Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania on Friday described the Supreme Court's verdict in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) case as a historic victory for the state's rights, crediting Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's leadership and sustained efforts of the state government's legal team for the achievement.
Addressing a press conference at the Cabinet Hall of the Mini Secretariat here, Pathania said Himachal Pradesh had been fighting for its legitimate rights in the BBMB projects for a long time. The state government effectively presented its case before the Supreme Court, resulting in a landmark decision in its favour.
He said Himachal Pradesh had secured a 7.19 per cent share in BBMB projects, which would provide substantial economic benefits to the state. The decision is expected to generate an annual income of Rs 500-600 crore, while the state would receive 11,973 crore units of electricity over the next 20 years.
Pathania said the additional revenue and electricity share would strengthen the state's economy and accelerate development activities. He described the verdict as an important achievement that would benefit future generations.
Highlighting the Sukhu government's efforts to protect the state's financial interests, he said the government had also secured favourable legal outcomes in matters relating to the Wildflower Hall Hotel and the Karcham-Wangtoo hydropower project.
He said the government was committed to bringing about systemic changes and ensuring that the state's resources were utilised for the welfare of its people. Better resource management, revenue generation and fiscal discipline were among the key measures being undertaken to make Himachal Pradesh economically self-reliant.
Pathania emphasised that the state's rivers, water resources and clean environment were valuable assets, and Himachal Pradesh deserved appropriate economic returns for its contribution to the country's water and energy requirements. He added that environmental protection and ecological balance would remain important priorities.
Appealing to the opposition to support the government on issues concerning the state's interests, he said the fight for Himachal Pradesh's rights should rise above political differences.
Pathania expressed confidence that the decision would open new avenues for economic growth, development and public welfare.
Assistant Commissioner Vivek Chauhan, SDM Mohit Ratna, Chief Engineer (Electricity) Ajay Gautam, Superintending Engineer Aman Chaudhary and other officials were also present on the occasion.
