Shah chairs high level security review at Delhi Police HQ

Agraj Pratap Singh
New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Delhi Police Headquarters in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Home Secretary, Commissioner of Police and senior officials of MHA, giving instructions that peace must be maintained in the Capital during the coming festival season, sources said.
The high level meeting assumes significance in view of the Congress party’s decision to hold a massive public rally at Ramlila Grounds on November 1, a few days before Diwali, as well as the situation during the recent protests by the CJP and the opposition against the Chief Election Commissioner and Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls.
The recent CJP and opposition protests at Jantar Mantar and nearby areas had disrupted normal life in the national capital, especially in the heart of the city, majorly affecting business activities.
Despite suggestions from various stakeholders for rescheduling of the November 1 protest rally, the Congress has declined to postpone the same, and announced the program.
The recent protests in and around the New Delhi District had severely affected movement of traffic, along with closure of gates at several metro stations, and cancellation of long distance trains.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has been concerned that normal life in the national capital should not be affected particularly because of the festival season and the requirement of people to move around freely, and safely.
The HM reached the PHQ at 3 pm, and the meeting is said to have lasted for around three hours.
He was briefed in detail by the top brass about Delhi Police force's performance, the ongoing initiatives against drugs, law enforcement and law and order, sources said.
