SRly conducts mock drill at Jolarpettai Yard

Chennai, June 287 (UNI) The Southern Railway conducted a joint Mock Drill at Jolarpettai Yard
today to evaluate the defence and disaster preparedness and to monitor the effectiveness of relief and rescue operations.
The mock drill saw the participation of nearly 1,000 members, including personnel from Chennai Division's Safety, Civil Defence, Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police wings,
St. John Ambulance, and key central agencies such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force (TNDRF), and Metropolitan Disaster Response
Force (MDF).
The mock exercise was conducted at Jolarpettai Yard, under the aegis of Ganesh, Principal Chief Safety Officer. Tej Partap Singh, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Sathiya Seelan, Senior Divisional Safety Officer, B. Ramakrishna, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Senior Branch officers and staff of Chennai Division participated in the drill.
Ms K.Sivasoundaravalli, District Collector, Tirupathur, Ms Shreya Gupta, Superintendent of Police, Tirupathur and other State officials also participated in the mock drill.
An accident scene was replicated using condemned coaches and mannequins of passengers.
A Self-propelled Accident Relief Train (SPART) with Doctors, paramedical staff, rescue workers, engineers and emergency tools for extricating passengers from wreckage was sent to the accident spot set up for mock drill.
The NDRF, TNDRF and MDF team rehearsed the rescue and relief operation, a Southern Railway release here said.
The key activities undertaken during the mock drill included Mobilizing men, materials and machines to the accident zone; setting up of lighting arrangements; coach cutting and extricating trapped passengers from the derailed coaches; setting up of emergency control centre; emergency medical action to be given to the injured like CPR/ first aid and shifting them to nearest medical centre for further assistance; assisting passengers with food and refreshments; provision of assistance for transportation of stranded passengers; clearance of the affected track section and restoration of
train services.
Chennai Division conducts these mock drills at stipulated intervals as part of Disaster Management.
The primary objective of this exercise is to monitor disaster preparedness through seamless coordination.
