Teacher recruitment process to start from May 31: Bengal CM Mamata

Kolkata, May 27 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced her government would issue the notification for the recruitment of teachers by May 31 as per last month's Supreme Court order.
The SC had on April 3 directed that the vacant posts in the state-aided schools for higher classes (IX to XII) should be filled up and the appointment process be completed by November 30.
Addressing a media conference at the state secretariat Nabanna, she said the government was
committed to supporting the dismissed teachers, and so has filed a review petition seeking the
apex court order for reinstatement of the qualified dismissed teachers,
However, since the top court is on summer vacation the sacked teachers will have to wait and at the same time they also should apply for the job to opt for the second option ."We will keep all the teachers, who have lost their jobs, if the top court gives any positive response to the view petition," the Chief Minister reiterated.
"We have to follow the judicial order and the government would issue a notification for recruitment by May 31, and online submission of application will start on June 16 and last date for application is July 14," he said.
Publication of results and counselling date is November 30." the Chief Minister said.
She also announced that provision for age relaxation is there for experienced teachers in the recruitment process. Altogether 44,203 teachers to be appointed as posts in most of the state aided schools are lying vacant, Banerje said.
She reiterated that the government wanted the teachers to get back their jobs and for this the state appointed lawyers have filed the review petition in the apex court, referring to ASpril 3 Supreme Court decision that led to the cancellation of the entire 2016 panel of appointments made through the West Bengal School Service Commission.
Banerjee said that the teachers who lost their jobs will get the benefit of experience in the fresh
recruitment process.
The Chief minister said time is running out and the state government would go ahead with the
notification for the recruitment process for teaching and non-teaching staff as instructed by the Supreme Court.
"The Supreme Court has set a time frame. If we do not obey it, the Supreme Court can say since you
did not follow our order, we reject the review petition,” Banerjee said.
“We do not want that to happen. We do not want anyone to lose their jobs.” the chief minister said.
The top court ordered the state to issue an advertisement with the notification for fresh recruitment
process by May 31 and complete the process by December 31.
The SC and previously the Calcutta High Court had scrapped the entire panel for the 2016 state-level selection test conducted by the School Service Commission in the cash-for-jobs scam, dismissing nearly 26,000 teachers and non-teaching staff. UNI PC SSP
