Telangana CM Revanth Directs Officials to Prepare Action Plan to Tackle El Niño Impact

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to tackle the potential impact of El Niño, warning that the next eight months would be crucial for the state in managing possible water, agriculture and power crises.
At a review meeting with senior officials at his Jubilee Hills residence, the Chief Minister stressed the need for advance preparedness, public awareness and coordinated measures to address the challenges arising from rainfall deficits and adverse weather conditions.
He directed officials to launch awareness campaigns on El Niño and its possible impact through television channels, cinema halls and cultural troupes after the Dussehra festival. The campaigns would cover villages, mandals, districts and the state level.
Expressing concern over the possible intensification of the power crisis, Revanth said electricity availability in the market was limited, despite the government's readiness to incur the expenditure required to procure power.
He called for judicious use of electricity and suggested postponing power-intensive activities wherever possible.
On agriculture, the Chief Minister instructed officials to assess standing crops and ensure adequate water supply until harvesting was completed.
He stressed the need to prevent water wastage and take precautionary measures to avoid a worsening of the water crisis.
Revanth said a special meeting with ministers would be convened soon to discuss the El Niño impact, rainfall deficit, farmers' difficulties and measures required in areas receiving deficient rainfall.
He said around 215 mandals in Telangana were experiencing drought-like conditions. The state government had earlier adopted a resolution in the Assembly urging the Centre to declare the affected areas drought-hit, extend adequate financial assistance and sanction a special package of Rs. 20,000 crore.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to urge the Centre to provide an additional 50 days of employment under the employment guarantee scheme, over and above the existing provision of 125 days.
The state government was prepared to facilitate the additional employment, he said.
He suggested establishing a dedicated 'war room' to continuously monitor the situation and a toll-free helpline to address public concerns.
Senior officials in the Chief Minister's Office were also directed to closely monitor power supply arrangements.

Government Advisor Ramakrishna Rao, MP Vem Narendar Reddy, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, DGP CV Anand and other senior officials attended the meeting.
