Telangana SC & ST Commission collaborates with Cyberabad police, distributes flats to atrocity victims

Hyderabad, July 2 (UNI) Telangana state SC and ST Commission in collaboration with the Cyberabad police, distributed 2BHK flats to SC and ST atrocity victims at a meeting held here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah stated that this is the first-of-its-kind initiative in India to provide double-bedroom houses to atrocity victims.
As part of this effort, 31 out of 43 sanctioned flats were handed over to affected families, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and self-respect, he said.
He emphasised the Commission’s commitment to justice and assured continued coordination with the State Government to implement further welfare measures.
He also announced that shops will be allotted at low rent near the housing complexes to support victims in starting small businesses.
Urging revenue and police officials to act with compassion and humanity, he stressed that all eligible victims must receive housing.
Chairman Venkataiah noted that Telangana is the only state in the country offering such housing to atrocity victims, and that SC & ST Commission Chairmen from states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have shown interest in replicating the model.
He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Duddilla Sridhar Babu for their support in making this pioneering initiative a reality.
Cyberabad CP Avinash Mohanty, remarked that while atrocities leave lasting scars, it is essential to help victims rebuild their lives.
He appreciated the proactive efforts of the SC & ST Commission in standing by the victims and ensuring sustained support through close coordination with the Police Department.
Medchal-Malkajgiri District Additional Collector & Additional District Magistrate, A, D. Vijayender Reddy addressed the gathering and emphasised that these homes represent not just physical shelter but also dignity and a fresh start.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing security, stability, and social inclusion for these families.
Medchal DCP N. Koti Reddy, stated that supporting atrocity victims is not merely a duty but a moral and humanitarian responsibility.
He highlighted that welfare initiatives such as housing, legal aid, and social support not only meet immediate needs but also restore the victims’ confidence and self-worth, sending a strong message that the system stands with the oppressed.
The meeting was attended by Balanagar DCP Suresh Kumar, Crimes In-charge DCP L.C. Naik, SC & ST Commission Members Rambabu Naik and Jilla Shankar, Vigilance Committee members Venkateswarlu and DBF Shankar, NGO representative Venkatesh, police officials, and families of the victims.
