Telangana to unveil Aerospace & Defence Policy 2.0 soon: CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, Octr 24 (UNI) Telangana will unveil its ‘Aerospace and Defence Policy 2.0’ soon to attract investments in defence manufacturing and promote Hyderabad as a major destination for defence research, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said on Saturday evening.
Participating in the curtain-raiser programme for ‘Raksha Expo’, the Chief Minister invited investors to expand their investments in Telangana and assured them of the state government’s full cooperation.
He said the proposed expo would bring together global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), defence and security officials, experts and startups to facilitate dialogue and promote innovation in defence technologies.
Stressing the need for India to emerge as a global leader in defence manufacturing, Revanth Reddy said the country should move from importing defence technologies to exporting them.
He said defence manufacturing, aerospace and allied sectors would play a key role in achieving the targets outlined in the ‘Telangana Rising Vision 2047’ document.
The state aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Telangana, which accounts for more than 2.5 per cent of India’s population and around five per cent of its GDP, aims to increase its contribution to the national economy to 10 per cent by 2047, he said.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s strategic importance, the Chief Minister said the city was home to major research institutions and key establishments associated with the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.
He also referred to the construction of a Very Low Frequency (VLF) naval radar station in the Damagundam Reserve Forest in Vikarabad district, noting Telangana’s contribution to services for the Indian Navy despite being the only state in South India without a coastline.
The Chief Minister said Telangana had the required talent pool and educational infrastructure to support the defence industry, citing institutions such as IITs, IIITs, NITs, ISB and BITS.
The establishment of Young India Skills University and the upgradation of industrial training institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) were aimed at developing skilled manpower, he added.
Representatives from organisations including DRDO, HAL, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI), the Tata Group, Airbus, Skyroot, Lockheed Martin and Bharat Forge attended the programme.
Revanth Reddy also invited investors to participate in the ‘Invest Telangana Global Summit’, scheduled to be held at Bharat Future City from December 7 to 9.
He said the summit would provide a platform for investors to explore opportunities in defence, aerospace, space, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and drone technology.
The Chief Minister said there was no policy paralysis in Telangana and asserted that the government was committed to supporting investments and industrial development despite political differences.
He called upon industry stakeholders to work with the government to develop Telangana into a major industrial hub for India’s defence sector.
