UP Urban bodies OTS scheme receives widespread public support

Lucknow, Oct 4 (UNI) The One Time Settlement Scheme (OTS), implemented by the Uttar Pradesh Government aimed at strengthening urban bodies financially and providing self-reliance and providing relief to taxpayers in settling old dues, is receiving widespread public support in the state.
So far, 1,00,006 applications have been received under this scheme, which is being implemented in all 762 urban bodies in the state. Of these, 65,457 applications have been approved, while 32,737 are in the pipeline.
Through the OTS scheme, which is being implemented in 17 municipal corporations, 200 municipal councils, and 545 town panchayats, eligible taxpayers are being provided relief in settling pending house tax, water tax, and sewer tax dues. Under the scheme, ₹40.85 crore has been recovered so far against a demand of ₹176.61 crore. Eligible beneficiaries have been provided relief of ₹67.33 crore. So far, 65,457 beneficiaries have directly benefited from the scheme.
State Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma said that the state government is continuously working to make urban bodies economically strong and self-reliant, while also providing better urban amenities to citizens.
"The OTS scheme is an important initiative in this direction. This scheme provides taxpayers with a simple and convenient opportunity to settle old dues, while urban local bodies are being assisted in the effective and timely recovery of pending revenue," he said.
He also appealed to eligible taxpayers to take maximum advantage of the scheme within its stipulated period, so that their old dues can be settled and the financial capacity of urban local bodies can be strengthened.
Residential properties have the highest share of applications received under the OTS scheme. Of the applications received so far, 80,465, or approximately 80.5 percent, relate to residential properties, 11,158, or 11.2 percent, relate to commercial properties, and 8,382, or 8.4 percent, relate to other categories of properties. Based on the relief provided to eligible beneficiaries so far, the average relief per beneficiary is approximately ₹10,286.63.
For taxpayer convenience, the scheme also provides for the payment of outstanding dues in up to three installments. This provides taxpayers who face difficulties in making lump-sum payments a practical opportunity to settle their past dues. The scheme is operational from August 15, 2026, and can be availed of until December 15, 2026.
To connect as many eligible taxpayers as possible to the scheme, the Urban Development Department is organizing special camps in various urban bodies. These camps provide information about eligibility, the application process, and available relief, and provide necessary assistance in the application and settlement process. The department is placing special emphasis on keeping the entire process simple, transparent, and timely.
The Urban Development Department has appealed to eligible taxpayers in the state to take maximum advantage of the OTS scheme and settle their pending house tax, water tax, and sewer tax dues as per the rules. While the scheme is providing relief to citizens in settling old tax dues, it is also helping in strengthening the revenue base of urban bodies and making them financially more capable and self-reliant.
