Voting is not merely a choice but a responsibility: Nagaland guv

Dimapur, Nov 5 (UNI) Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday urged young citizens and future leaders to exercise their voting rights with awareness, integrity and responsibility.
He reminded them that their vote was their voice; awareness, their strength; and participation, the foundation of a strong democracy.
Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Yuva Samvad–Know Your Vote’ programme at North East Christian University (NECU), Dimapur, Yadav urged the participants to remain informed and responsible, respect the Constitution and contribute positively to society, saying voting was not merely a choice made during elections but represented a responsibility toward society and a commitment to democracy.
He particularly urged first-time voters to familiarise themselves with the electoral process and make informed decisions based on facts, knowledge and democratic values.
During the programme, held on the theme “Know Your Vote” under the aegis of the union ministry of youth affairs and sports and MY Bharat, students and other participants took the ‘Loktantrik pledge’ with the governor.
Yadav emphasised the importance of informed voting, youth participation and responsible citizenship.
Congratulating MY Bharat and NECU for organising the programme, he said it provided a valuable platform for young people to understand their democratic rights, responsibilities and role in nation-building.
He said India is the world's largest democracy and that its greatest strength lies in active citizen participation.
Referring to the Constitution, he said it upheld the principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, adding that the right to vote was one of the most powerful instruments available to citizens in shaping the future of the nation.
Yadav also appreciated MY Bharat for creating opportunities for youth leadership, volunteering, civic engagement, and community service.
