Sandhu emphasizes on 100 per cent source segregation & ward-level processing for zero waste neighbourhoods

New Delhi, Sept 24 (UNI) In a bid to establish neighbourhoods in the national capital with a zero- waste approach, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu on Thursday held detailed discussions on decentralised solid waste management with select experts from agencies concerned.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized on 100 per cent source segregation, ward-level processing, and strict compliance by bulk waste generators across the city, to ensure cleanliness.
Addressing officials and experts, LG Sandhu said that a cleaner Delhi starts with everyone's efforts.
"Segregate. Participate. Share. Inspire. Let’s make every neighbourhood cleaner - and Delhi zero-waste," Sandhu said.
Meanwhile, work is being done to improve the overall waste management in the national capital, with identification and adaptation of best practices that can address the problem that has been haunting people, especially those living in places and localities that are congested and close knit.
The national capital has also started working on a war footing to remove the garbage mountains, and during the past year, the volume has significantly decreased.
The city has also stepped up its waste processing infrastructure to bridge the processing gap, that was the difference between the amount of garbage produced, and the amount being processed.
In the beginning of this month, LG Sandhu had stressed the need to shift from the 'waste to landfill' to 'waste to wealth' system, which will be powered by the source segregation through the new 'four bin' approach.
The MCD and IIT Delhi had a workshop earlier this month on the subject of solid waste management, which was addressed by the LG, where he had stated that it was time for Delhi to learn from the models like Indore and work together towards building a cleaner, greener and developed national capital. Govt backs GalaxEye with Rs 64 crore for all-weather Earth imaging satellite
