Technical universities should contribute to finding solutions for civic issues: LG Sandhu

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday said that technical universities must contribute towards developing solutions for civic issues of like sanitation, traffic management, road conditions and flood management.
Sandhu, who chaired Netaji Subhash University of Technology's (NSUT) 6th Court Meeting on Tuesday, directed the varsity to facilitate the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, NDMC, Delhi Police, Health Department and Transport Department, etc., with technological solutions for their department-specific requirements.
LG emphasized that AI education must stay future-ready through global collaboration, focusing on transformative applications, especially AI-enabled healthcare in government hospitals.
The LG appreciated the varsity's academic growth, and urged a sharper focus on research that delivers solutions, turning research papers into actionable outcomes for Delhi's real-world challenges.
As a technical university, he said NSUT should strive to work out issues like rain-flooding management by analysing best global practices for technical solutions.
He called for imparting skill courses that generate employability, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and digital tools, and for leveraging international academic and industry partnerships to upgrade capabilities and global competitiveness, so as to improve the University's national and global rankings through research excellence and international engagement.
The LG directed the establishment of an effective communication system with students, with regular interactions to be held by the Vice Chancellor, Deans and faculty members.
He called for sports and co-curricular activities to be conducted regularly, for infrastructure and facilities for students and faculty to be improved, and for the recruitment of teaching, non-teaching, technical and administrative staff to be expedited in a time-bound manner.
Sandhu also directed that consultancy and research projects be instituted in alignment with the requirements of society and industry.
He emphasized that the way forward for a Viksit Dilli is in moving from research to solutions, and from innovation to impact.
