IAF Aircraft delivers 65 tonnes of quake relief for Myanmar at Lengpui Airport

Aizawl, Apr 1 (UNI) A C-17 Globemaster transport Aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) landed at Lengpui Airport on Tuesday, carrying 65 metric tonnes of humanitarian aid for the victims of the powerful earthquake that struck central Myanmar, Airport officials said.
The massive military Aircraft, built in the United States, was loaded with essential relief items, including rice, drinking water, medicines, water filters, and tents, which were offloaded at the Airport. Officials said the consignment would be transported by road to Zokhawthar in Mizoram’s Champhai district, which shares a border with Myanmar.
Sources indicated that the Assam Rifles would oversee the movement of the aid from Zokhawthar, and arrangements were being made for its onward transportation to the affected areas in Myanmar via Chin state. Reports suggest that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had discussions with Myanmar's military authorities on Monday regarding the delivery of the relief materials.
When asked whether the supplies would be able to pass through western Chin state—an area currently controlled by resistance forces—an Airport official said they had no information on the matter. An Assam Rifles official also declined to comment on how the relief would be moved beyond Zokhawthar.
