Kerala: Tribal youth found hanging in washroom of Kalpetta police station

Wayanad (Kerala), Apr 1 (UNI) A 18-year-old tribal youth, who was in police custody, was found hanging in the washroom of Kalpetta police station on Tuesday.
According to police, the deceased was identified as P Gokul (18).
Wayanad District Police Chief Taposh Basumatary told news persons that Kozhikode Women cell taken Gokul along with a tribal minor girl into custody on Monday evening and handed over to Kalpetta police, following a missing complaint filed by the girl's family that she was missing from March 26.
After bringing them to Kalpetta station, police shifted the girl to a temporary government shelter home and Gokul was in the police custody for interrogation.
Around 0730 hours this morning, Gokul went the washroom and police checked the washroom after 15 minutes when he didn't returned and found him in hanging position by using his shirt.
A police team rushed him to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
The Police Chief also said the police have not charged any crime against the youth and did not question him so far.
Police conducted inquest on the body under the supervision of RDO and the body was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Police said a magistrate level inquiry will be conducted in this connection.
BJP organized a protest in front of the police station, alleging that mystery was still lingering in the custody death of a tribal youth and demanded a comprehensive inquiry including the checking of CCTV footage in the police station.
Police forcibly blocked and dispersed the agitators in the morning. Congress leaders also demanded an inquiry in this regard.

Karnataka: Govt revises office timings in heatwave-affected dists

Bengaluru, Apr 2 (UNI) The Karnataka government on Wednesday issued an order revising the working hours of government offices in nine districts due to the prevailing heatwave conditions.
According to the State Information and Public Relations Department, government offices in the seven districts of Kalaburagi division, along with Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts in Belagavi division, will operate from 8 am to 1.30 pm during April and May 2025.
