Mizoram appointed as official host for UNESCO’s World Art Day celebrations in India

Aizawl, Apr 1 (UNI) Mizoram has been officially designated as the host for India's celebration of UNESCO’s World Art Day on April 15, organised by the International Association of Art (IAA) under UNESCO’s patronage.
In preparation for the event, a preview meeting was held on Tuesday at MINECO, chaired by Art & Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga, to discuss plans and arrangements for the celebration.
Minister Lalsawivunga expressed gratitude for Mizoram being selected to host the nationwide event, acknowledging the recognition given by IAA India. He highlighted the significance of World Art Day and assured that all necessary efforts would be made to ensure its successful organisation. He also noted that IAA India had sought the cooperation of four state departments, underlining the importance of the event.
The minister further emphasised that hosting World Art Day presents Mizoram and the Mizo community with a valuable opportunity to showcase their cultural heritage on the global stage. Reflecting on past experiences, he mentioned how Mizoram’s Cheraw dance performance at an event in Turkey had gained international appreciation. He expressed confidence that the upcoming celebrations would similarly promote Mizo culture worldwide.
During the meeting, representatives from the four key coordinating departments—Art & Culture, Tourism, Information & Public Relations, Printing & Stationery, and Commerce & Industries—detailed their respective roles in organising the event. Departmental heads also discussed various logistical and support mechanisms required to ensure the success of the celebration.
The meeting followed discussions previously held between IAA Mizoram Chapter, IAA India President Manaj Saha, and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on February 7, 2025, regarding the state’s role in hosting the event.
