Skill Development centre to be set up in Pune city: minister

Mumbai, Mar 19 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has unveiled plans to establish a Skill Development Centre in Pune city under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aimed at enhancing the employability and vocational skills of students and youth, Minister Uday Samant informed the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
The announcement came in response to a pertinent suggestion raised by MLA Vijay Shivtare concerning development challenges in villages incorporated into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). MLA Bhimrao Tapkir also contributed to the discourse, shedding light on the socio-economic implications for the local population.
The minister highlighted that Pune, a thriving educational and employment nucleus, attracts a significant influx of students and job seekers. In view of this, the necessity of targeted skill enhancement to meet the growing demands of the labour market, he emphasised.
Responding to their concerns, Samant underscored that municipal councils have been established for the villages of Fursungi and Uruli Devachi in PMC.
He assured that based on population assessments, the Council would soon be granted 'A' grade municipal status, pending formal approval by Konkan Divisional commissioner. The infrastructure works will continue until the transfer of services to this municipal council from the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Action will be taken to prevent collection of property tax twice in those newly participating villages in the Municipal Corporation. The property tax of these villages would not exceed twice the previous gram panchayat rates, pending such review, collection of this tax has been temporarily suspended.
Furthermore, he addressed public health concerns regarding the Fursungi waste depot, vowing to take measures to alleviate any nuisance to citizens. He also disclosed plans to rejuvenate and add water supply schemes linked to Jambhulwadi lake with a detailed project report underway.
Samant further stated that a meeting will be convened shortly to address the issues of all 32 newly included villages under Pune Municipal Corporation, with particular attention to streamlining water supply schedules in Fursungi and Uruli Devachi, tailored to residents' needs and ensuring equitable access to essential services, he added.
