Ambedkar’s embrace of Buddhism reflected continuity, not conversion: Prof Agnihotri

Dharamshala, Oct 14 (UNI) Haryana Sahitya Evam Sanskriti Akademi Vice-Chairman Prof Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri on Wednesday said that Dr B R Ambedkar’s embrace of Buddhism represented a journey of continuity rather than religious conversion.
Speaking at the concluding session of the Ambedkar Samvadmala organised by the Ambedkar Studies Centre of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, he said Ambedkar’s choice of Buddhism reflected his commitment to Indian civilisation and his focus on national and social consciousness.
Contrasting Buddha’s emphasis on inner transformation with Karl Marx’s approach to external change through violence, Agnihotri said Ambedkar had clearly expressed his priorities by embracing Buddhism. He also urged young researchers to focus their work on national and social issues.
