Bengal: Six-member SIT formed to probe SRFTI violence

Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) The West Bengal government on Wednesday formed a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Kunal Agarwal, to probe the recent violence at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI).
The order issued by Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh stated that the SIT includes Sparsha Nilangi, Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department), Kolkata Police; Kaushik Ghosh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID; and Salil Roy, Assistant Commissioner, Anti-Rowdy Section, Kolkata Police. Tusharkanti Ghosh, Assistant Commissioner, Eastern Suburban Division, and Hirak Dalapati, Inspector, Detective Department, are also part of the team.
It may be mentioned that violence broke out during a Sunday afternoon event organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat Samiti, an RSS affiliate. It was alleged that Students' Federation of India (SFI) members arrived at the venue and tore down banners and images of Bharat Mata and Swami Vivekananda. The SFI members, on the other hand, accused the RSS affiliate of calling them "militants" and "Bangladeshis" and subsequently assaulting students who protested against the remarks.
Four separate FIRs have been filed at Panchasayar Police Station in connection with the incident.
The police are trying to piece together what exactly happened at the institute. Information from the scene and CCTV footage will be examined, while investigators will also review statements of eyewitnesses present on the day of the incident.
According to police sources, various details that have emerged during the investigation, including scene data, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, will be re-analysed. The role of each individual involved in the incident will also be scrutinised separately, and relevant persons may be questioned as part of the investigation.
Investigators will also look into whether there is any larger link behind the incident. Individuals concerned may be interrogated if necessary.
The SIT is scheduled to submit its first investigation report to the state government by Thursday, October 1. UNI BGA/SSP NST CDS
