Bhutan PM to attend UNGA High-Level Week in New York

Siliguri, Sepn 18 (UNI) Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay will travel to New York to attend the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled from 22 to 28 September.
Mr Tobgay will lead a delegation of senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Royal Government of Bhutan.
The Bhutanese Prime Minister is scheduled to address the General Debate of the 81st UNGA session on 22 September, where he will outline Bhutan’s perspectives on issues of global significance.
On the sidelines of the UNGA High-Level Week, Mr Tobgay is also expected to hold meetings with leaders of partner countries, representatives of international organisations and business leaders to explore and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During the high-level week, the Bhutanese Prime Minister will host a High-Level Meeting of the G-Zero Forum States, an international coalition of carbon-negative and carbon-neutral countries, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
He will also host a High-Level Meeting to ‘Renew the Global Commitment to End Poverty in All Its Dimensions’, in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the University of Oxford.
Bhutan’s participation at the UNGA High-Level Week comes as the Himalayan kingdom seeks to highlight its perspectives on global challenges, sustainable development, climate action and international cooperation. UNI MB CDS
