Low-pressure area likely to bring heavy rain to parts of South Bengal

Kolkata, Sep 18 (UNI) A brewing low-pressure area over Thailand is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall over parts of South Bengal in the next three to four days.
The system, presently in the form of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Thailand, emerged over the north Andaman Sea this evening. "Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region tomorrow and is then expected to intensify gradually and move towards the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent three to four days," informed an official.
As anticipated by weather scientists, the low-pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression at a later stage. However, the brewing system is likely to have a major impact on the neighbouring state. West Bengal, particularly the coastal districts of South Bengal, could experience a secondary impact of the brewing system, pointed out an official.
Meanwhile, Kolkata and its adjoining districts were lashed by heavy rain for the second consecutive day on Friday. According to weather scientists at the Regional Meteorological Centre, the rainfall over the past two days was triggered by a trough line extending from Sikkim to the North Bay of Bengal across Bangladesh.
The weather office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds on Saturday in parts of the South Bengal districts. UNI NN NST CDS
