BJD demands accountability, comprehensive reforms in Odisha examination system

Bhubaneswar, Sep 18 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday demanded a time-bound and transparent probe into the reported question-paper leak in the 3 Second Semester Examination at Utkal University and called for comprehensive reforms to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Strongly condemning the reported leak, the BJD said every serious irregularity in the examination system must be thoroughly investigated and responsibility fixed wherever negligence or procedural lapses are established.
The party alleged that during the two years of the BJP government, students and job aspirants across Odisha have faced 25 instances involving examination failures, cancellations, postponements, question-paper irregularities and other lapses.
The latest incident at Utkal University, it said, has once again raised questions over the security, transparency and credibility of the examination process.
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said students and job aspirants should not be repeatedly made to bear the consequences of administrative and examination-management failures.
He demanded immediate measures to restore confidence in the examination system and ensure that examinations are conducted with complete transparency, accountability and security.
Referring to the 25 examination-related incidents cited by the party over the past two years, Mohanty said their cumulative impact had created a sense of insecurity among students and job aspirants who depend on university and competitive examinations for education, employment and career progression.
He said repeated examination-related lapses were particularly concerning when the government was making claims about creating greater opportunities for the youth and securing a better future for students.
The BJD spokesperson called for tighter question-paper security, secure management of examination centres, stronger monitoring mechanisms and a comprehensive review of examination procedures followed by universities, recruitment boards and other examining authorities.
He also demanded that those found responsible for lapses be held accountable and that corrective measures be implemented without delay.
