Govt to work for welfare of underprivileged like Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar: Maha CM

Ahilyanagar, May 31 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday that taking the example of the work of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, the state government will work for the welfare of the underprivileged.
Speaking on the occasion of tricentenary birth anniversary of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar at Choundi, he said that the work and thoughts of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar are still a guide to the state system.
Ahilyadevi Holkar not only firmly established an ideal system of justice but also worked to provide justice to the wronged, he informed.
Keeping in mind her ideal of public service, the state government will also work for the welfare of the
underprivileged, he asserted.
During her rule of 28 years, Ahilyadevi revolutionised not only the political but also the social, economic, religious and cultural spheres.
She worked with great dedication in the revival of temples, construction of ghats, establishment of dharamshalas, water supply system for the poor and women empowerment.
Ahilyadevi Holkar not just renovated religious places across the country including Kashi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Pandharpur, Nashik, Jejuri from her own funds but also rebuilt the temple at Somnath, he recalled.
Despite having ample wealth, she lived a simple life as she did not spend money for herself, but for the welfare of society, hence she became 'Lok Mata', pointed Fadnavis.
To provide employment to the poor, Ahilyadevi Holkar set up a large textile industry centre at Maheshwar, where Maheshwari textiles started being produced.
She was the first female ruler to create a separate unit of women soldiers and also started producing
indigenous cannons for war readiness.
Her approach to justice was very progressive and firmly established an ideal justice system to provide justice to the unjust.
While providing justice like the common man, she banned dowry and worked to enrich the lives of women.
On the occasion of her birth tercentenary, the government has prepared a development plan of Rs 681 crore.
Also, the Cabinet has decided to create a grand memorial in her name, 'Adi Shakti Abhiyan' for women
empowerment and a multilingual film based on her to make her work known across the country, added
Fadnavis.
