Hyd: 252 offenders apprehended for driving under influence of alcohol

Hyderabad, May 25 (UNI) A total of 252 offenders were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during a special anti-drink driving drive conducted by the Cyberabad Traffic Police over the weekend.
As part of the enforcement, the police seized 199 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers, 43 four-wheelers, and no heavy vehicles, the Cyberabad Traffic police said in a release here on Sunday.
Among those caught, 228 offenders were found with Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels ranging between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, while another 18 offenders had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while six offenders were found with dangerously high BAC levels ranging between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml.
All offenders will be produced before the Court.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police urged all motorists to avoid drunk driving, as it endangers not only their lives but also the lives of others on the road.
Strict action will be taken against violators.
In cases where drunk driving results in fatal accidents, the accused will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.
