Maha: Fadnavis moots committee to act against MPSC top brass

Mumbai, Oct 5 (UNI) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recommended the formation of a special committee here today, to take action against the former and current chairman as well as members of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Commission, under Article 317 of the Constitution, sources said.
Fadnavis has recommended that the committee be constituted under the chairmanship of a retired High Court judge, which is expected to submit its report within three months so that action can be taken based on its findings. The development has come after almost constant needling by opposition figures like Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar and Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal who have alleged several times that present MPSC Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar has close ties with CM Fadnavis.
They have questioned why no action has been taken against Bhimanwar, who is allegedly the kingpin behind the MPSC question paper leak. For several months, there have been complaints of continuous irregularities in various examinations conducted by the MPSC. This has angered a large section of students in Maharashtra and a major student protest is underway in Pune under the leadership of NCP Sharad Pawar MLA Rohit Pawar. The angry students have been strongly demanding the resignation of MPSC Chairman Bhimanwar, and opposition parties have openly supported the student protest.
On Sunday, a ruling party MLA Sanjay Gaikwad had given a warning to the government in the wake of the MPSC exam scam. He made very serious allegations against the MPSC board and demanded that the board must be completely dissolved.
Gaikwad also stated that he would hand over some important evidence and letters regarding the question paper leak scam to the Chief Minister.
Also, on Sunday, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha leader Sanjay Raut and Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke extended their support to protesting MPSC aspirants in Pune and demanded the removal of MPSC Chairman Bhimanwar. Both the leaders met students at the protest site on Sunday and urged them to remain firm on their demands, which include greater transparency and fairness in the MPSC examination and recruitment process.
Raut said that thousands of aspirants from across Maharashtra have taken to the streets and alleged that the Fadnavis government has been attempting to divide protesting students instead of engaging with their representatives.
