Mangesh Padgaonkar's 'Ubhadanda' village to be given a new form of literary tourism: Uday Samant

Kolhapur/Sindhudurg, Sep 18 (UNI) State Marathi language and Industry Minister Uday Samant has said the 'Kavitanche Gaon' (village of poems) initiative in Ubhadanda, celebrated as the birthplace of legendary Marathi poet Mangesh Padgaonkar, will be given a bright appearance befitting the name, and development works will be accelerated in the next two months.
Talking with reporters after inspecting the 'Kavitanche Gaon' in Ubhadanda in Sindhudurg district today, Minister Samant said that the necessary funds will be made available for this.
To honor poet Padgaonkar's incredible literary legacy and keep the flame of Marathi literature alive, the Maharashtra government has officially transformed Ubhadanda into India's first "Village of Poems" 'Kavitecha Gaon'.
Samant directed the development of five important halls on priority, namely the school where Mangesh Padgaonkar studied, the school with zero number of students, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation hall and the hall he visited. The minister also instructed the Language Director in this regard over the phone.
The Language Director will visit Ubhadanda tomorrow and inspect the site, after which an effective planning plan will be prepared.
The minister appealed to the villagers to keep aside the internal disputes in the village and consider the literary legacy of poet Mangesh Padgaonkar for the development of Ubhadanda.
An effort will be made to promote literary tourism in Ubhadanda on the lines of 'Book Village' Bhilar.
For this, a separate concept will be decided for each gallery and a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be prepared for its operation, he added.
