No other option for CBI but to arrest Aaditya Thackeray, says Nitesh Rane

Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) BJP leader and Maharashtra Minister of Ports Development, Nitesh Rane, today stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has no other option but to arrest and interrogate Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray in custody, in connection with the Disha Salian death case.
“In such a case, a custodial investigation can be conducted. The CBI has no other option but to arrest and interrogate Aaditya Thackeray. There is a provision in the law to arrest and interrogate in such cases,” the minister said during a media interaction.
When Rane was asked if the names of Shiv Sena chief as well as former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray are present in the FIR, he replied, “No. The names of Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray are not in the FIR, but Disha Salian’s father Satish Salian has mentioned in his statement that they must be investigated. I am not the spokesperson of the Salian family.”
Replying to another question about what happened to a pen drive which Nitesh Rane used to carry claiming that it contained all the evidence against the Thackerays, he said, “The pen drive has reached where it was supposed to reach”, refusing to speak anything more on the matter.
Rane criticised the Thackeray family as well as the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena spokespersons talking about the Disha Salian case.

“Whether it is Sanjay Raut, Sushma Andhare or Uddhav Thackeray, the more these three people talk about the Disha Salian case, the more pressure they put on her father Satish Salian, and the more their problems will increase. If Sanjay Raut and Sushma Andhare want Aaditya Thackeray to be arrested, they should keep talking,” he said.
Rane alleged that six years ago, under a Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, headed by then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, evidence related to the Disha Salian case was destroyed.
“Six years ago, there was a Maha Vikas Aghadi government. Then the evidence in this case was destroyed. Then a proper investigation was not done. The police at that time were under pressure from the rulers. The police could not conduct a fair investigation. But now there is no pressure on the police. Whatever evidence exists and whatever links have been found, are being investigated. I have confidence that Disha Salian will get justice,” Rane said.
Rane also stated that the Disha Salian case is not a political one.

“This is not a political case. A girl has been raped and murdered. Her parents lost their daughter. Nobody should give any political colour to this matter. This is a case in court. The CBI is investigating the case. I am of the opinion that the investigation should not be obstructed. The investigation is going on. Let it continue. A fair investigation is being done,” he said.
Reacting to Uddhav Thackeray’s statement that he would go to court if defamatory statements about him are made, Rane replied that “If he has said such a thing, there is nothing new in it. A similar statement has been made in court on behalf of Aaditya Thackeray before. He had said in the court that he had been implicated in the Disha Salian case, but the court rejected his claim. After that, the court gave a decision in favour of Disha Salian’s father.”
