Mann opens 154 more Aam Aadmi Clinics, says Punjab healthcare network reaches 1,244

Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday inaugurated 154 additional Aam Aadmi Clinics, taking their statewide number to 1,244, and said the facilities had recorded more than 6.48 crore outpatient visits since the launch of the government's primary healthcare initiative.
Addressing a gathering at Harkhowal village in the Chabbewal constituency, Mann said nearly 1.98 crore people had accessed the clinics, which provide free consultations, diagnostic tests and 127 types of medicines.
He also said 54.20 lakh families were covered under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, offering cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh per family, while nearly eight lakh beneficiaries had received treatment.
"Healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford expensive private hospitals," Mann said, defending his government's expansion of public healthcare facilities.
Launching a political attack on the opposition, Mann alleged that traditional parties would discontinue Aam Aadmi Clinics, the health insurance scheme, financial assistance for women and free bus travel if they returned to power.
"The traditional political parties have only looted Punjab," he said, accusing his rivals of attempting to undermine the government's welfare initiatives.
The Chief Minister said his administration had provided 70,685 government jobs and employed 5,500 young people in the Health Department.
He also announced plans for a UPSC coaching centre in Hoshiarpur and said construction of a medical college named after Sri Guru Ravidass had begun.
"We want the children of Punjab to become IAS and IPS officers and serve the country with distinction," Mann said.
Referring to agriculture, he claimed canal irrigation coverage had increased from around 22% to more than 80%, supported by approximately 14,000 km of pipelines.
Mann said his government would continue prioritising healthcare, education, employment and irrigation despite criticism from opposition parties.
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal and MLA Ishaan Chabbewal attended the event.
