Odisha partners with SBI to streamline digital payments for municipal services

Bhubaneswar, Sep 18 (UNI) The Odisha Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department has partnered with the State Bank of India (SBI) to streamline digital payments for municipal services across the state through the SUJOG platform.
The department signed an MoU with SBI’s payment aggregator service, SBIePay, to enable citizens to pay municipal taxes, fees and utility charges online through multiple digital modes, including UPI, credit and debit cards, internet and mobile banking, IMPS and digital wallets.
The agreement was signed by H&UD Additional Secretary Suvendu Sahoo and SBI DGM (D&TB) Sushant Kumar Dash in the presence of H&UD Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee and SBI Odisha Circle Chief General Manager Rakesh Yadav.
Under the arrangement, payments made through the gateway will be settled directly into the designated bank accounts of the respective Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on a T 1 business-day basis. Unique transaction identifiers will facilitate tracking, reconciliation and accounting of collections.
The system will also provide for refunds, chargeback management and exception handling, besides MIS-based reconciliation. These processes will have a turnaround time of seven calendar days.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the need for citizens to visit municipal offices for routine transactions and improving the transparency, efficiency, and convenience of urban service delivery.
Padhee said the partnership would further strengthen SUJOG and make citizen services more efficient and accessible through digital means.
Yadav assured the department of SBI’s support in implementing the initiative and strengthening the digital payment ecosystem under SUJOG.
