BJP MP Dr K Laxman criticises power struggles in Telugu States

New Delhi/Hyderabad, May 25 (UNI) BJP Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr K Laxman made sharp observations on the evolving political scenario in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, he described the politics in the Telugu states as "interesting," highlighting the recurring patterns in both states involving internal family feuds and dynastic power struggles.
Dr Laxman drew parallels between the two states, stating, “The same scenes are being repeated. There’s a stark difference between the distribution of assets left by the fathers and the distribution of political positions.” He remarked that the political 'arrows' being launched by siblings are now being turned inward, with younger sisters openly challenging their brothers' leadership.
"In Andhra Pradesh, Y S Sharmila is targeting her brother former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, while in Telangana, Kavitha is aiming her criticism at BRS Working President K T Rama Rao KTR," Laxman said.
He accused both families of prioritising personal survival and family legacy over public welfare. “Yesterday it was the YSR family, and today it's the KCR family. This is about self-preservation, not public service.”
He noted that the Congress party, particularly in Telangana, is playing a significant role in amplifying these family disputes. “Opposition to Congress is now emerging in Telangana, with Revanth Reddy shouting slogans that are attempts to divert public attention from the real issues,” Laxman asserted.
Turning his focus to the BJP, Dr Laxman stated, “BRS was born and has drowned. BJP is shining across the country and has gained strength in Telangana. We are confident that we will come to power in the future.”
Commenting on the recent developments involving Kavitha, Dr Laxman questioned her relevance within the party. “Yes, Kavitha wrote a letter, but is she even in a position to meet KCR? Her statements seem like a direct challenge to KTR, who was proposed by KCR as his political heir. She is signalling that she won't accept KTR’s leadership.”
He described Kavitha’s talk of “social Telangana” as “demons reciting the Vedas,” implying it is both ironic and insincere. “She is using the party platform solely for her survival,” he added.
On a broader national perspective, Dr Laxman praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, highlighting India's economic ascent. “India is now the fourth-largest economy in the world, surpassing Japan. This is a clear showcase of Modi’s leadership. A developed India is on the horizon.”
Dr Laxman also mentioned the completion of the Asia Pacific Regional Workshop, in which PAC Chairman Case Venugopal and two other members participated. “The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has become a crucial pillar of our parliamentary democracy, and we are working unitedly, without any distinction between the government and opposition.”
He noted that organisational elections within the BJP, delayed due to issues following the Pahalgam incident, are now progressing. “Presidents have been announced in 14 states, and the selection of remaining state presidents, along with the All India President, will be completed soon.”
Dr Laxman firmly stated that Kavitha will not have any influence on Telangana politics.
