Mumbai Crime Branch busts 2 Goa based Cyber Fraud networks: Over Rs 1000 Cr routed through mule accounts

Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) The Mumbai Crime Branch has uncovered two separate cyber fraud networks allegedly operating from luxury villas in Goa, with investigators claiming that more than Rs 1000 crore was routed through mule bank accounts in the past six months. Police suspect both networks have links to Gujarat and possible connections with international cybercrime groups.
The operations, carried out by Crime Branch Unit 2 and Unit 5 during the past two months, have highlighted the alleged use of Goa’s coastal resorts and private villas as bases for handling money generated through cyber fraud and illegal online activities.
In the first operation, Unit 2 raided a luxury villa in Calangute and arrested 12 people allegedly involved in an international cyber fraud and illegal online gambling racket. Investigators said the network had routed more than Rs 500 crore in suspected fraud proceeds through different bank accounts over six months.
During the probe, the Crime Branch also succeeded in freezing around Rs 100 crore that was allegedly lying in bank accounts connected with the racket.
A separate investigation by Unit 5 led officers to another Goa villa, where seven people were arrested in connection with an alleged international cyber fraud network. The accused were brought to Mumbai for further investigation. Police said the network had allegedly defrauded victims across the country of around Rs 400 crore.
The seven accused have been identified as Tejaskumar Hasmukhlal Dabghar, 36, Piyushbhai Ishwarbhai Chavda, 19, Jitendrasingh Mobatsingh Rajput, 27, Dalpatsingh Bamarsingh Rajput, 28, Vanrajsingh Jaypalsingh Vaghela, 21, Yogeshkumar Arvindbhai Patel, 26, and Gautam Tejabhai Mali, alias Lucifer and Gattu, 25.
Investigators were able to trace the second Goa operation after earlier arresting three people from a residential society in Malad. The trio was allegedly involved in arranging mule bank accounts used to move proceeds from cyber fraud. Information obtained during their interrogation reportedly helped the Crime Branch identify the Goa-based network.
DCP Raj Tilak Roushan said the seven accused in the second case were originally from Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar in Gujarat. They were aged between 20 and 30 years and had studied up to Classes 10 to 12. According to the police, they had been living in different Goa villas for several months while allegedly conducting fraudulent activities.
Police said the accused had developed an application that was allegedly used to transfer and route fraud proceeds. Investigators suspect that instructions were being received directly from masterminds based in Dubai, after which the money was moved through multiple bank accounts in a layered transaction process.
Although the two cases involved similar methods of moving suspected cyber fraud proceeds, the Crime Branch said it has so far found no direct connection between the two gangs. Investigators are continuing efforts to establish the identities of the alleged Dubai-based masterminds and locate other people suspected to be part of the networks.
The two investigations have also drawn attention to the alleged use of Goa’s luxury accommodation facilities as operational bases for cybercrime-related financial transactions, according to the Mumbai Crime Branch.
