NIA Panchkula gets approval for 14 postgraduate Ayurveda courses, 70 seats

Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Panchkula, has secured regulatory approval to introduce 14 postgraduate programmes with 70 seats from the 2026-27 academic session, expanding specialist medical education, clinical training and research opportunities in Ayurveda.
The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has issued a Letter of Permission authorising five seats in each of the 14 disciplines at the institute, which operates as an off-campus centre of the Jaipur-based National Institute of Ayurveda deemed university.
The programmes cover Ayurveda Samhita, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, pathology, toxicology, preventive medicine, paediatrics, internal medicine, Panchakarma, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery and Shalakya Tantra.
Of the five seats in Shalakya Tantra, three have been allocated to ear, nose and oral disorders and two to ophthalmology.
NIA Panchkula currently offers 100 undergraduate BAMS seats, with its first batch admitted in 2024-25.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sanjeev Sharma described the approval as a major milestone in strengthening specialised Ayurvedic education.
"Our objective is to provide students with a better academic environment, quality training and practical experience so that they can deliver improved healthcare services through their expertise," Sharma said.
He said the new programmes would encourage both students and faculty to pursue advanced research and innovation.
Dean Professor Gulab Chand Pamnani said the expansion would help develop specialist practitioners and strengthen the institute's position as a centre for Ayurveda education and research in northern India.
Admissions to the newly approved postgraduate seats are scheduled to begin during the 2026-27 academic session.
