Sanitation worker's suicide due to financial fraud by AAP councillor exposed party's double standards: Malhotra

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra today made public the police FIR registered against Aam Aadmi Party Municipal Councillor from Trilokpuri, Vijay Kumar, alleging that he committed financial fraud against a Delhi Municipal Corporation sanitation worker, Deepak, and forced him to commit suicide.
Malhotra said that this tragic incident has exposed the double standards and dark face of the AAP. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Delhi BJP media head, MLA Ravindra Negi, Councillor Priyanka Gautam, BJP leader Rajkumar Dhillon and Media Relations Head Shubhendu Shekhar Awasthi, were also present at the press conference,
While attacking AAP, Kapoor said that the people of Delhi want AAP leaders to take immediate action against councillor Vijay Kumar, who allegedly forced a sanitation worker to commit suicide.
Malhotra said that the Municipal Corporation sanitation worker had been working in the Trilokpuri ward for several years and wanted to build a house for his family, and had sought help from the AAP councillor Kumar.
According to Delhi BJP, around a year ago, Kumar allegedly showed the deceased dreams of getting a house and arranged a loan of Rs 15 lakh, which was transferred into his own account. He also took possession of Deepak's signed bank cheque book, and using these signed cheques, the councillor allegedly withdrew the late municipal worker's salary every month for the past 9–10 months, Delhi BJP alleged. The distressed worker had been asking the councillor for several months either to arrange the house or return his money.
However, the councillor allegedly started threatening him with getting him transferred and also demanded a 25 per cent commission, Rs 25,000 per lakh. Broken by the loss of his money on one hand and his inability to run his household on the other, the late municipal worker became depressed and began telling his family members and friends that if anything happened to him, AAP councillor would be responsible.
Eventually, distressed by his family's financial condition, sanitation worker Deepak died by suicide on September 1, while councillor Kumar allegedly continued to intimidate and threaten the family, the BJP leader alleged.
According to Malhotra, around September 7–8, the matter came to the attention of BJP leaders and MLAs Ravikant and Ravindra Negi, along with councillor Priyanka Gautam and former Deputy Mayor Rajkumar Dhillon formed a team, contacted the family, provided them emotional support and encouraged them to file a complaint with the police.
