Tension grips Mumbai as police crackdown on CJP

In a related development, Mumbai Police have registered a case against protesters who staged a demonstration in the August Kranti Maidan and Nana Chowk areas of south Mumbai in support of the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJP)'s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, police said today.
The First Information Report was registered at Gamdevi Police Station under Sections 223, 126(2), 189(2), 189(3) and 189(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The protest in Mumbai was held in support of the CJP's demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where the organisation had raised concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and demanded the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The protesters sought to express solidarity with the campaign and its demands concerning the functioning of the country's electoral system.
Police said action was initiated against the protesters for allegedly violating prescribed rules and restrictions. Further investigation is underway.
Details about the number of people booked, the identities of the protesters and whether any arrests have been made were not immediately available.
